Spring is the shoulder season between winter carnivals and summer fairs. Quebec's sugar shack (cabane a sucre) season runs from late March through April, offering a uniquely Quebecois experience of maple syrup, traditional food, and live music. Early agricultural events and garden shows begin in April and May across the southern provinces. Victoria Day weekend in late May traditionally marks the unofficial start of the outdoor event season, with community celebrations and the opening of some seasonal attractions.
Summer is the peak season for Canadian carnivals and fairs. The calendar is packed from Canada Day on July 1 through Labour Day in September. Key events include:
Fall brings harvest fairs, Thanksgiving celebrations, and Halloween-themed events. Agricultural exhibitions continue into early October in many communities. Apple festivals in Ontario and BC, wine harvest events in the Okanagan, and fall fair traditions across the Maritimes provide reasons to get outside and enjoy the autumn colours. Halloween events and haunted attractions run throughout October.
Winter carnival season begins in late January and peaks in February. The major winter events include:
CNE, Caribana, Winterlude, and community carnivals.
Carnaval, sugar shack season, and summer festivals.
Calgary Stampede, Silver Skate, and Banff Carnival.
